Want to feel like you’re on the edge of the world? Hiking to massive graffitied concrete slab, 2,375 feet above the Pacific Ocean will definitely make you feel like you’re on the edge of the world!
The former fire observation tower is reminiscent of the Sunken City with its striking contrast of colorful tags juxtaposed with a rich natural landscape. Except, here, you’ll be treated to sweeping views of canyons instead of the crashing waves of the Pacific.

Topanga Lookout, the former site of a fire tower, stands above Red Rock Canyon Park and continues to offer fine views of the Santa Monica Mountains, Calabasas, and the Santa Susana Mountains. This hike to Topanga Lookout is 2 miles round trip with just 160 feet of elevation gain.
Your entire journey will offer opportunities to take in the spectacular surroundings of the Santa Monica Mountains, Calabasas, and the Santa Susana Mountains. That means amazing Photo Ops too!
To get there you’ll need to make your way to the Backbone Trail and Stunt Road crossroads. However, there are a number of ways to get there (check HERE) offering different sites and terrain to traverse. Whichever route you take will cost you absolutely nothing and you’ll be able to bring your four-legged friends along too.
Don’t worry if you’re a beginner because it’s an easy hike suitable for all!
