What to do in Descanso Gardens

This beautiful garden has more than 600 varieties of camellia (these are best seen between the middle of February and early May, when there are around 34,000 of the plants in bloom) and some five acres of roses.

Here you’ll also see lilac, orchid, fern and California native plant areas, as well as a tea house donated by the Japanese-American community.

Experience the giants in the Descanso landscape, the coast live oak (Quercus agrifolia).

View Descanso’s newest garden, Ancient Forest which collection includes more than 180 plants representing 60 varieties including several endangered species.

Relax at the Oak Woodland

In the Gift Shop, buy home and garden furnishings, such as garden benches, bird baths, statuary, lanterns and cherubs and vast array of garden and nature books for both adults and children. The art lover will find beautifully framed prints, original watercolors, rugs and wall hangings. Outdoor wear includes T-shirts, sweatshirts, gloves and hats.

The Gift Shop is open every day (from 10am–5pm) except Christmas. For more information, phone (818) 949-4292.

Eat fresh and seasonal dishes at The Kitchen. The Kitchen is open from 9am–4:30pm daily.

It provides a fresh, seasonal dining option during your visit. Located near the Gardens entrance, The Kitchen showcases the season’s best fruit, vegetables and herbs from local farms and gardens.
