Author Jacqueline Woodson, recipient of a National Book Award, Coretta Scott King Award, Newbery Honor, Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, and MacArthur “Genius Grant,” reunites with illustrator Rafael López on a follow-up to their New York Times bestselling and award-winning picture book, The Day You Begin.
In The Year We Learned to Fly, Angelina, the young Black girl from The Day You Begin, and her younger brother, follow their grandmother’s advice to use their “brilliant minds” to lift them out of challenging situations and emotions and to imagine a better world, just as their ancestors did before them.
